American Workers United (AWU) is a nonprofit 501(c)(4) organization dedicated to advocacy, education, partnership development, and overall support to prioritize economic development for American workers. AWU members come from all walks of life and economic sectors, including local small business, family owned farms, logistics, law enforcement, veterans, teachers, health practitioners, homemakers, retirees, and more.

 

A 501(c)(4) organization is a type of tax-exempt organization in the United States. These organizations are typically known as "social welfare organizations," and they are organized for the purpose of promoting the common good and general welfare of the community. They can engage in some political activities as long as it is not their primary activity. They are not required to disclose their donors, unlike a political action committee (PAC) and also are not required to pay taxes on their income. Examples of such organizations include civic leagues, social welfare organizations, and local associations of employees.
